Domain transfer process
Transferring your domains to DOMAINSAFE for DNS management has a three stages that are explained below.
1. Update the registrar
This doesn't really change anything except who the licence fee gets paid to.
As the domain registrant, you will need to click a link in an email (sent per domain) authorising each transfer.
Transferring sometimes incurs a licence renewal fee, which extends the existing licence (you don't lose anything by transferring registrars).
E.g. If the expiry date is 02-Jul-2027, it will become 02-Jul-2028. No more licence renewal fees to pay until then
Warning: Transferring domain names can generate a lot of emails. Most will be basic status updates, but some might require action or have important details we might need to complete the process.
When transferring a lot of domains at a time, it is often useful to set up a shared spreadsheet (e.g. on Google Sheets) so everyone can see where each domain is up to and any outstanding actions.
2. Setup the DOMAINSAFE Cloudflare name servers
We'll set up new Cloudflare domains for all domains under the DOMAINSAFE Cloudflare account.
This can be done behind the scenes whilst the transfers are happening. It doesn't affect the live domains/sites.
3. Change the name server DNS records for each domain
This is when the new Cloudflare name servers are switched 'on' for each of the domains.
At this stage, DOMAINSAFE has access to make any changes/improvements/fixes that are needed now or in the future.
